The porcelain factory in Sevres, France, has been famous for producing fine, detailed and gilded porcelain of the highest quality for centuries. During the second half of the 18th century, the producer was one of the most dominant porcelain manufacturers in Europe. Today, Sevres porcelain is of high collectable value and with shrinking supply, demand continues to grow.

The vibrant colours as well as the flamboyant design of the pots were important components of the French taste. Their central panels, depicting birds and botanical features, are set in gilt, Rococo frames.
