A pair of late 19th century turquoise glazed porcelain leopards, modelled seated.
In China, the tiger symbolises energy and power and is often linked with the Chinese god of wealth. The “nobel creature” originates from Asia and has a long standing tradition in Chinese art. The giant cat is said to drive away evil spirits and its mystical powers make it one of the twelve zodiac signs. The tiger is also the national animal of India, South Korea, Bangladesh and Malaysia.
