A fine 19th Century Pair of famille rose porcelain cockerels, naturalistically modelled.
In Chinese history and culture, the cockerel is a well used symbol. The tenth of the Zodiac signs, it represents punctuality, fidelity, kind heartedness, courage, hard-work, honesty, independence, physical and moral fortitude. In most cultures the cockerel is also often mentioned in conjunction with the representation of light and the solar system.
