An Early 19th Century Regency Period Rosewood Writing Table
£3,500
SOLD
A Late Regency Period rosewood writing table, the rectangular top with finely figured veneers and beading to the rim, set upon two upright supports joined by a turned stretcher with carved decoration, the whole terminating in richly carved bun feet.
This fine example of a writing table is a wonderful illustration of the Regency furniture style. The local wood employed to manufacture this work lends it a rich and sophisticated look. The carved decoration is understated and subtle yet impactful. The object shares the Regency’s ever-present interest in the architectural achievements of Classical Antiquity; whilst pieces were certainly grand, they never failed to be tidy, neat and rigorously symmetrical.
