A fine pair of late 20th century rosewood benches in the Regency manner, with drop-in mattress seats all held by acroteria and raised on turned fluted legs.
Rosewood exudes a sweet, strong smell which persists for a number of years after harvesting it, lending the timber its charming name. It has historically been a valuable and expensive good due to its durability, elegance and warm colour palette. It is a heavy wood which polishes very well, as can be observed in the exquisite, glossy, fluted legs of these benches.
