A Late 18th Century Nest of Three Yew Wood Tables

£2,250

SOLD

A rare late 18th century George III Period nest of yew wood tables, the tops inlaid with finely figured burr yew veneers and set upon pierced supports with splayed feet.

This delicate nest of tables is made of yew wood which is characterised by an attractive and rich toffee colour. It is not only very strong and durable with a straight, close grain but also very flexible – it has been used for the making of bows in archery since the beginning of time. The yew tree is one of the oldest in Europe and traditionally symbolises transformation and rebirth
