A Chinese Lacquer Low Table
£3,900
SOLD
A fine mid-19th century circular lacquer table, the top decorated throughout with pagodas in a fantasy landscape with mother-of-pearl inlay.
Now raised on a late 19th century English japanned and gilded three legged stand in the chinoiserie manner.
This table typifies the enduring Western fascination with the Orient. It is an amalgamation of Chinese lacquerwork, inlayed with mother of pearl, and an English made base which has been constructed in the Chippendale manner and adorned with gilded chinoiseries.
While it is is useful it also has tremendous aesthetic value and will add a sense of wonder to any drawing room.
