A 19th Century Late Regency Period Mahogany Console Table

£3,500

SOLD

An early 19th century mahogany console table of serpentine form, the frieze supported upon two carved monopodia of stylised lion heads above hairy paw feet, all supporting a replaced black marble top.

This strong, robust, architectural piece is heavily influenced by Classical Antiquity. The Lion, being a dominant feature of this table, historically symbolises protection, power, majesty and awe. The reddish brown palette of the wood lends this work an exotic air and the black marble top adds weight to the grand, important nature of this piece.
