A late nineteenth century Japanese lacquer panel, depicting an imaginary river landscape with footbridge, set within a rectangular frame with fret cut legs as a low or coffee table.
This table was most probably made in the second half of the twentieth century by Mallett & Son (Antiques) Ltd of New Bond Street, London, W1. In addition to selling the finest antiques, Mallett’s continued the centuries old tradition of incorporating lacquer panels into modern furniture. The frame of this piece, utilises the well known ‘Cobham’ leg.
