A Pair of 20th Century Tub Chairs in the Regency Chinoiserie Taste
£2,400
SOLD
A pair of mid 20th century tub chairs in the Regecny chinoiserie manner, the elm frames carved in imitation of bamboo, the upholstered seats and backs supported on legs in the same manner headed with pieces bracket supports.
Although made in the mid-20th century, these seats closely follow the tub chair form, favoured by English designers in the late 1790s and early 1800s. Faux bamboo shoot carving was particularly fashionable in Regency England and this pair of armchairs harks back to the era of Brighton Pavilion and the sumptuous Court of George IV.
