An Early 19th Century Regency Period Eglomisé Border Glass Mirror
£950
SOLD
A small scale overmantel giltwood mirror of architectural form, the central mirror plate flanked by two panels of verre églomisé with the Prince of Wales feathers motif in gilt on a white ground, the panels articulated by fluted columns with composite capitals.
This mirror was made at the end of the Regency Period and is inspired by Roman architecture. Verre églomisé, is a French term which means glass gilded. This process involves the gilding of the reverse side of a sheet of glass. The technique dates back to pre-Roman times and was revived by the art-dealer Jean-Baptise Glomy (1711–1786). The term for this process is a derivation of his name.
