An 18th Century Adam Giltwood Oval Mirror
£12,500
SOLD
A late 18th Century carved giltwood mirror in the Adam taste, the gadrooned oval frame surrounded by carved floral details, a Classical urn, stylised acanthus and foliate carving and rams heads, all linked by chains with gilded drops.
This mirror belongs to the early part of the English Neo-Classical Period. Furniture from this period has a lightness of form and this is displayed in the slender mirror frame and it’s surrounding ornament.
Classical motifs here deployed include husks, an urn, acanthus leaves and rams heads, the latter very much a motif used in the designs of the important architect Robert Adam (1728-92).
