A Late 18th Century Louis XVI Walnut Commode
£4,900
SOLD
A late eighteenth century Louis XVI Period walnut commode, the overhanging top above a panelled carcass with three panelled long drawers, each with circular brass handles and lock escutcheons and raised upon square tapering feet.
This commode was made in the last quarter of the eighteenth century when Classical restraint was the governing attribute of architecture and interior decoration. The austere lines show an absolute break from the Rococo style. Even the lock escutcheons and handles take inspiration from Roman medallions.
