A 19th Century Chinese Export Leather & Brass Trunk

A fine early 19th century brass bound dark green leather trunk, with carrying handles at either end and decorated throughout with brass nailing in the Regency manner; the interior retaining the original paper lining.
With an initialled brass plate for 1820
These trunks were made in China at the beginning of the 19th century for the transportation of rare and expensive goods from The Orient to Europe. The construction – of camphor wood – is typical of colonial furniture, yet the decoration is specific to that of Regency design.
Today, these are often placed at the end of beds for storage of linens, or as coffee tables in a drawing room.
