A fine early eighteenth century George I Period burr walnut chest on chest, the upper section with architectural cornice above three short and three long feather banded drawers with etched brass escutcheons and handles, all flanked by reeded chamfered corners, the lower section having three long drawers of the same, the whole raised upon bracket feet.
This piece was made during the golden age of English cabinet making, a period in which the skill of craftsmen reached a new level of excellence and designs achieved a subtlety of form that came to epitomise Early Georgian style in England. The use of richly figured burr walnut veneers was highly fashionable at the time and pieces such as this represent the most luxurious class of furniture during the advent of the age of mahogany which followed shortly after its construction.
