A finely executed pen and ink study on paper of a Canarium Strictum (Black Dammar Tree).

Dated July, 1857. Set in a giltwood frame

Inscribed with the species name and the place of discovery and execution: Annamallays (translating literally as ‘Elephant Hills’). With Indian inscription in pencil also.

The Annamallays Plateau contains about 100 square miles in the Southern Highlands of India.
