A Watercolour of Sweet Peas

£650

SOLD

A watercolour of sweet peas set within an inlaid 19th century frame.

Signed Sarah Beaufoy.

Framed dimensions are listed.

Seeds of the sweet pea were first introduced to England from Italy in the 17th century. It was, however, only after the Scotsman Henry Eckford cross bread the plant that the sweet smelling flower we know today was created. The sweet pea symbolically represents pleasure and delight and has traditionally been used to offer thanks.
