An 18th Century Coastal Capriccio – Follower of Claude Joseph Vernet
£4,950
SOLD
An 18th century Capriccio depicting a port with classical ruins, a gentleman on horseback, tradespeople, fishermen, boats and a lighthouse before mountains.
Following in the manner of Vernet, this capriccio combines detailed figurative painting, engaging marine activity within an idealised landscape. The subject matter is varied and incorporates animated subjects such as trade and conversation. The composition is very well balanced, the colours rich and details well observed and executed.
Oil on canvas. Held in a swept giltwood frame.
