A 19th century porcelain hat stand of hexagonal form, having a pierced body, with figurative decoration in red and turquoise glazes upon a yellow ground.

Ceramic hatstands were first produced during the Jiaqing period as tall slender objects with a number of cut-outs providing ventilation for the hat sitting on top. This hexagonal example is richly decorated in yellow, red and orange, featuring an opulently dressed person on each of the six panels.

Qing Dynasty, Tongzhi Period (1862 – 1874)
